Minority Peer Counselors (MPCs)
Minority Peer Counselors are paraprofessional student staff who live and work in first-year residence halls, serving as mentors and community-builders with a focus on supporting students of color. MPCs help foster personal growth, social responsibility, and connection through one-on-one relationships and group engagement.
MPCs receive training in active listening, conflict resolution, crisis response, and inclusive community-building. They also engage deeply with topics such as racism, classism, sexism, and other systems of oppression.
For many new students of color, MPCs are a vital source of guidance, support, and affirmation within a predominantly white institution. Through day-to-day interactions and intentional programming, they help make Brown a more inclusive and connected place to live and learn.

Minority Peer Counselor Coordinators (MPCC)
MPC Coordinators (MPCCs) are experienced mentors and leaders within the MPC program. They work closely with the Assistant Director for First-Year and Sophomore Programs to support the development of Minority Peer Counselors and strengthen the program's impact across campus.
As returning members of the MPC team, MPCCs offer guidance, structure, and mentorship to current MPCs, helping to build a strong and supportive community. They model ethical leadership, encourage collaboration, and help ensure the program reflects the values of inclusion, accountability, and care.
MPCC responsibilites include:
- Peer Leadership: Partner with BCSC staff to help MPCs meet their responsibilities in a thoughtful, ethical, and inclusive way.
- Mentorship & Support: Help MPCs develop their peer mentoring style and navigate complex topics related to race, identity, and campus life. Encourage collaboration across residence halls and with campus partners.
- Community Awareness: Recognize and respond to the ways race, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, religion, and nationality shape student experiences. Foster inclusive and affirming spaces.
- Campus Advocacy: Promote honest, compassionate dialogue in residential spaces. Support MPCs in addressing discrimination, bias, or harm. Represent the MPC program with integrity in the broader Brown community.

TWTP Team
The TWTP team organizes and facilitates the Third World Transition Program, one of the BCSC’s signature pre-orientation experiences. Grounded in the legacy of BIPOC student activism, TWTP introduces incoming students to community, dialogue, and critical reflection before the academic year begins.
The TWTP Co-Coordinators and Leaders work closely with the BCSC team and MPCs to develop and lead workshops, events, and affinity-based spaces during TWTP.
